Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr has disclosed a serious vulnerability within Bitcoin Core that could be exploited by Inscriptions, potentially affecting the functionality of Bitcoin Ordinal and BRC-20 tokens. While addressing the community, Dashjr highlighted the imminent outage of these entities due to fixing the vulnerabilities.
Vulnerability Addressed: Impact on Bitcoin Ordinal and BRC-20 Tokens
In a recent public announcement, Dashjr flagged a vulnerability within Bitcoin Core that affects operability related to inscriptions. The exploit involves bypassing long-standing restrictions that allow users to control additional data within a transaction. Dashjr explained that Inscriptions found a way to circumvent these restrictions by disguising data as program code, creating serious security problems.
The developer said this vulnerability was fixed in Bitcoin Knots version 25.1. However, despite the fix, Bitcoin Core is still vulnerable in the upcoming v26 release. Dashjr has expressed hope for a fix before v27 is released in the coming year.
Ordinal and its impact on BRC-20 tokens
In response to community questions, Dashjr stated that once the vulnerability has been resolved: bitcoin ordinal and BRC-20 Token It will no longer exist. With further emphasis, he dismissed the existence of Ordinals, labeling it a fraud. He believed the attack was a spam attack targeting Inscriptions.
