Vision Pro New World Notes Reader Survey Results: Nearly one in five people want to buy a headset this year, but nearly half don’t want to at all.

Vision Pro Consumer Survey

Here are some very scientific findings about buying Vision Pro: This was the choice chosen by 45% of 80 respondents asked when they planned to purchase an HMD from Apple. "never".

On the other hand, 50% said yes. do I want a Vision Pro… someday. Some soon.

10% answered "now", which is a very strong result for a device that costs around $3500. Adding to this the 9% who responded: "Within 1 year of release if reviews are generally good".

Put another way, despite the higher price, nearly one in five respondents said they plan to purchase Apple Vision Pro this year.

Unsurprisingly, the second biggest preference is price-driven, with 20% expressing interest when the Vision Pro costs less than $500. Less than 10% are asking for a more modest price reduction to $2,500 or $1,500.

That’s it then. This is a completely casual survey, but I think it’s fair to say that it roughly reflects the consumer interests of people who read this blog – people who are very interested in virtual worlds and VR/AR related technologies. In other words, this is the target market for Apple Vision Pro.

But even if New World Notes readers are ideal early adopters of technology like Vision Pro, most are clamoring for drastic price cuts, and nearly half are simply not interested.

Here are some reactions from readers:

As a power user of PCVR, I’m not the target demographic. I don’t know exactly who it is, but it’s not me. — Writer Adeon

I will order the 2nd generation. It’s a good concept and would suit me as a retired person living alone, but it’s such a big leap that I hope others adopt it quickly. — Tom

As a developer, there are many hurdles (including price tags) to jump through before you can develop. But if there’s a good business-related reason, such as porting a successful mixed reality app to VisionOS, I’ll probably buy it. As a consumer, the price should come down to around $300 or less. (Sounds weird, but considering this isn’t replacing my (SteamVR) headset or Apple devices or anything else, it might be worth it to me.) — Martin K.

Personally, I am one of them. "Wait until it’s $300" That is, assuming initial sales are enough for Apple to continue making more models and cutting prices.
