Surprisingly, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin found his official Twitter account under siege. When a suspicious link appeared in one of his tweets, an alert was immediately raised, indicating a possible phishing attempt.

Buterin’s father expressed concern

Dmitry Buterin, the father of the cryptocurrency pioneer, informed the community about unauthorized access to Vitalik’s account through social media platforms on September 9. The mentioned tweet has since disappeared from the platform. The now-deleted tweet features an enthusiastic Buterin hinting at the introduction of “Proto-Danksharding” on Ethereum. Fortunately, the team quickly regained control of their Twitter account and appear to have taken the necessary steps to secure it.

Sources claim that cyber attackers spread fraudulent tweets that misled users by promising a unique NFT from Consensys to celebrate Ethereum’s “Proto-Danksharding” milestone. especially, PeckShieldWarning Phishing URLs were quickly identified and reported.

Unfortunately, these incidents are becoming all too common in the digital currency space and are often targeted by cybercriminals. A similar breach occurred last July when the Twitter account of Uniswap leader Hayden Adams was compromised.
