It was around 4pm at work when a co-worker came to my cubicle to tell me that a tornado warning had been issued for Winnipeg. I quickly packed up my gear, got in my car, and drove home. Then the sky turned dark gray and the first thick raindrops splashed against the windshield.
That evening, I experienced the worst storm I’ve ever experienced in my life (and I’m now 62-1/2 years old). My phone kept going off as the tornado warning went off several times (I lost count after 30). After being too close for comfort, noisy When lightning struck nearby, I grabbed my pillow and blanket and headed to the bathroom. I sat in the bathtub, following YouTube’s storm chase live stream posted on the r/Winnipeg subreddit on my iPad, with my iPhone handy, which still beeped at regular intervals, sometimes every few minutes.
I was lucky. Parts of Winnipeg received baseball-sized hail and flooded many streets, underpasses and basements, but my car, apartment and neighbors were relatively undamaged. No hail damage to my car. but i got zero As I slept that night, the stress made my existing neck and shoulder pain worse, so I spent most of Wednesday in bed feeling sick.
I’m going through a lot right now. A family member’s health may be rapidly deteriorating and they may need to make an emergency trip to Alberta. Ongoing neck and shoulder pain; And I have tried desperately to tie up loose ends and pass on information to the two librarians who will take over my duties when I begin my research and study leave on 1 July 2026. exhausted.
So again, if you haven’t heard from me in a while, that’s why. There’s too much going on in my life right now to write a blog post. Thank you for your understanding.
