Treasure unveils turn-based strategy game ‘Warlock Paper Scissors’

Web3 games publisher Treasure has announced the release of its latest title, Warlock Paper Scissors.

Scheduled for release in early 2025, the game sets itself apart in the blockchain gaming landscape by combining turn-based strategy with battle royale and extraction gameplay elements. Featuring a synchronous rotation mechanic, Warlock Paper Scissors aims to provide strategic depth by focusing on skill and tactical anticipation without relying on randomness.

The game also emphasizes community involvement through tools to create custom maps, skins, and abilities.

What are Warlock Paper Scissors?

Warlock Paper Scissors is a 2D competitive strategy game where players compete to secure victory by securing the central crystal, escaping the map, or defeating all opponents.

Gameplay features a simultaneous turn system where all players lock in their moves simultaneously, and once decisions are confirmed, tasks are revealed sequentially. This design requires players to anticipate their opponents’ strategies and plan several steps in advance.

The lack of random elements in gameplay is meant to prioritize skill and strategic thinking. Matches are designed to be fast-paced, giving players a balance of action and tactical depth. Players can also utilize various fantasy abilities during a match to increase their chances of success.

Treasure is building Warlock Paper Scissors on a proprietary layer 2 blockchain developed using ZKsync technology. The move follows the publisher’s switch from the Arbitrum platform and aims to improve scalability while maintaining Ethereum compatibility. The game uses the $MAGIC cryptocurrency for transactions within the ecosystem.

One of the game’s standout features is its modding feature, which allows players to create custom maps, skins, and potentially new abilities to promote user-generated content and expand the gameplay possibilities. Treasure also plans to support competitive play by developing potential tournaments and prize pools.

To celebrate the launch, Treasure is giving away collectible NFT mints, known as cartridges, for free until December 31, 2024, with additional updates, including public beta testing and community event plans, coming soon.
