The Calvin Ayre Foundation donates $100,000 to Sports Cars for the cause and funds approximately 100 Filipino students.

The Calvin Ayre Foundation is investing in the future of nearly 100 Filipino students by participating in the Sports Cars for a Cause charity event for the first time.

The show brings together sports car owners and enthusiasts each year for charity. The fifth event was held on February 11 at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila.

nChain and the Calvin Ayre Foundation were the top donors to Sports Cars for a Cause this year. The Antigua-based charity donated $100,000 to the initiative, directly supporting the education and living expenses of 93 students at Sisters of Mary School.

On this day, hundreds of sports cars lined up along BGC 4th Avenue with their engines turned on, and it was crowded with onlookers trying to take pictures with their favorite cars. Participants shared an intimate breakfast and attended a short program featuring performances by students and special guests.

Preparing Students for Success

Stephanie Tower, nChain’s Head of Business Development in the Philippines, joined the organizers in cutting the ribbon for the event. She told CoinGeek that this is a very important cause for the company, explaining that it “affirms value, helps shape students’ futures, and creates an environment for success.”

For Charlie Rufino, one of the project’s main organizers, creating a level playing field and giving disadvantaged students an advantage is of the utmost importance. “It’s about removing them from a position where they’re not really participating in the economy and not enjoying it, and then giving them an opportunity,” he said.

Sister Elena Bellarmine, rector of Mary School, added that the program is of great help to children who are unable to study due to poverty.

“This allows us to provide food, clothing, shelter and education to many poor children,” she said.

Sports cars and charities come together

Underpinning the charity’s success is participants’ shared love of sports cars. And few people love sports cars more than motorsports racer Angie Mead King, who was one of the celebrities attending the celebration.

King, now in his second year attending the event, brought along a Ferrari 458 Italia that served as a beautiful centerpiece to the entire car show.

“Everyone here is lovely and I’m excited to see all the cars,” King told CoinGeek, commenting on the high turnout. “And there are different types of cars. Not all supercars. There are eclectic cars, there are old air-cooled Porsches, there are old muscle cars.”

King said one of the things she really liked about this year’s event was how many children attended. She called it “a great sight to see” and said it gives her hope that future generations will still love the car.

King said he fully supports the car show’s charitable purposes and would like to attend future events.

“What you have done with ‘Sports Cars for Purpose’ is truly amazing. “I’m happy to be a part of it,” she told organizers. “If you need more help in the future, please let me know at any time. And congratulations on a very successful event!”

‘The world is your oyster’

With the 5th Annual Sports Cars for a Cause being such a success, there are plans to create a bigger and better version of the event in the future. Rufino said he is looking at ways to introduce students to more skills and courses, especially in technical fields such as coding and cybersecurity.

Meanwhile, nChain hopes to lay a foundation for developing blockchain talent in the Philippines early in students’ careers. Tower said he is happy to see efforts to nurture young talent in the country, reminiscent of the way blockchain incubator Block Dojo Philippines invests in promising blockchain startups.

“My message to the Sisters of Mary School students is to continue to work hard, stay focused on your studies and be open-minded to understanding and developing your skills,” she said. “Open your heart to the world. With help from the Calvin Ayre Foundation, Ayre Group and nChain, Sports Cars for a Cause recorded its largest donation ever in 2024, with proceeds sufficient to fund a total of 146 students enrolled across multiple campuses of the Sisters of Mary School. got it.
