wow I am fascinated by light and shadow. He primarily photographs avatars with their faces obscured or revealed by the interplay of light and shadow. His photostream is awe-inspiring due to his excellent focus and breathtaking photos. “The Crack” is a reference to Leonard Cohen’s song “Anthem” and its lyrics “Ring the bells that still can be still/ Forget your perfect offering/

“There is a crack in everything, a crack/So the light comes in.”

“Clear-eye” provides the penumbral shadow of an eclipse when the shadow does not block all light. Whether overlays or tattoos, his face seems to have wrinkles that make me think of the layers of the earth’s crust, the geological layers beneath our feet. The brightest point in the ring is where the third eye would be, which is probably not a coincidence. The third eye is believed to be connected to our spiritual awakening. But when I think of The Third Eye, I think of its Portland flagship, legendary among many friends and colleagues.

‘The Hermit’ is truly amazing. It again has a very faint light emanating from or illuminating the third eye as the ring of light expands. Faint points of light are arrayed around the brilliant “sun.” Then smoke rose and hovered in front of his face like an offering.

It may be a coincidence, but since Ooxooi is such an intentional and thoughtful artist, it could also be intentional. Take a moment to look at the right side of the photo, out of focus. You may not be able to see things if you look, but you may notice things that you might miss if you just sit back and look at nothing. When you do so, you will see the outline of closed eyes in the smoke. Try it!

wow He is a great artist. His work makes me want to see more. I love how he experiments widely within one focus. His work is a memory Boundaries and limits stimulate the imagination It often allows for more creativity than complete freedom.
