TeamViewer leverages Almer's Arc 2 headset for remote support using AR technology

Remote IT support provider TeamViewer has announced a partnership with augmented reality (AR) startup Almer to use its AR headsets. Almer’s Arc 2 headset enables remote collaboration as if the individual were physically present and enriches the wearer’s experience with relevant information.

“This will facilitate communication and guidance between experts and workers in different locations. By overlaying digital instructions on the real-world environment, workers can receive accurate instructions and instructions, which increases efficiency and productivity,” Sebastian Beetschen, CEO and co-founder of Almer, told Metaverse Post.

Another practical use case involves the guidance of logistics staff. Beetschen added that augmented reality headsets can be used to provide logistics sector workers with step-by-step instructions so they can perform tasks accurately and efficiently.

This technology can also automatically verify task completion, streamlining workflow processes and minimizing errors.

Almer’s latest model, the Arc 2, features a holographic transparent screen with a 25MP camera, beamforming microphone, built-in speaker, and 8-hour battery life. The company claims that the device weighs 138 grams, making it four times lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

“It has outstanding image quality with an impressive 120 pixels per degree, surpassing industry-leading devices such as Apple Vision Pro, and offers fast charging capabilities, allowing users to reach 80% charge in just 15 minutes,” said Almer’s Beetschen. “There is,” he said. .

Enhancing industrial productivity with AR solutions

This partnership will allow TeamViewer to expand into untapped opportunities with industrial companies. Meanwhile, Almer will be able to expand its operations and advance AR adoption.

“Approximately 80% of the global workforce is working on the front lines of a company rather than at a desk, most of whom currently benefit little from digital transformation. “There is tremendous potential to increase efficiency and productivity by using digital tools to power frontline operations and connect significant parts of the global workforce to a company’s backend systems,” said Mei Dent, Chief Product and Technology Officer at TeamViewer. .

“Our joint offering with Almer will enable companies to explore how augmented reality can open new opportunities for their businesses and operations and significantly speed up their digitalization efforts,” Dent added.

“Machine downtime can cost up to $50,000 per minute,” explained Sebastian Beetschen. This highlights the cost-saving potential of AR in machine servicing. He further emphasized the economic benefits and return on investment (ROI) for businesses.

“If we used AR to service all installed machines for the top 10 tool machine manufacturers in DACH, we could achieve annual cost savings of £7.9 billion,” added Beetschen.

Almer was founded in 2021 by Sebastian Beetschen and Timon Binder. Sebastian was working on Hololens 2 at Microsoft Research and saw the AR opportunity expanding beyond clunky helmet-like devices.

Beetschen felt he could create a smaller, more comfortable, and cheaper AR device and teamed up with Timon, a former jet fighter pilot who recognized its potential. Timon created the Almer Arc headset based on his experience with AR jet fighter helmets.

Initially, Almer is focusing on Swiss industry and will soon expand into the nearby DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) region before going global.
