Solana Foundation Announces x402 Hackathon Offering $50,000 in Prizes to Advance the Future of Digital Payments

Public blockchain platform Solana announced the launch of the x402 hackathon. This hackathon encourages developers to create innovations in the field of payments that are internet-based and designed for AI. The event continues until November.

Developed on the Coinbase developer platform, x402 functions as an internet-based payment protocol that aims to simplify the process of conducting digital transactions.

Hackathon participants are expected to create products that demonstrate how users, merchants, and agents can participate in paid web services that run entirely on the x402 protocol, with Solana serving as the core infrastructure.

The hackathon will have a total prize pool of $50,000 spread across five tracks, with each track offering a top prize of $10,000. The track includes implementing a trustless agent focusing on identity, reputation, and verification. x402 API integration covering agent-to-agent and micropayments; The MCP server addresses the model context protocol server. x402 developer tools highlighting SDKs, infrastructure, and libraries. x402 agent application highlighting real-world AI agent use cases.

This initiative was organized by the Solana Foundation in collaboration with Coinbase Developer Platform, Phantom, Merit Systems, Corbits, Crossmint, PayAI Network, ATXP, Gradient, Coral Protocol, and Trends.fun.

According to the published timeline, the kickoff took place on October 28, the construction phase will run from October 28 to November 11, the submission deadline is November 11, and the winner will be announced on November 17.

Developers building open source AI agent infrastructure and payment solutions using the x402 protocol

The hackathon will be conducted remotely and participants are expected to develop open source infrastructure and applications that will contribute to the development of Solana’s agent economy. The goal is to design tools that allow AI agents to conduct autonomous transactions, create innovative payment mechanisms, or build functional agent-based applications. This initiative provides an opportunity to shape how autonomous agents participate in the digital economy.

All submitted code must be open source, as described in the submission requirements. Each project must integrate the x402 protocol or related agent infrastructure within the Solana ecosystem. All programs must be deployed on Solana development net or mainnet. Participants must also provide a demo video not exceeding 3 minutes to introduce the project and include comprehensive documentation detailing how the project will operate and be utilized.
