today saint lucia dayA popular holiday among people of Italian and Scandinavian backgrounds, it commemorates the saint who helped the persecuted “by wearing a wreath of candles on his head, lighting the way, and keeping both hands free to carry as much food as possible.”
i will make traditional saffron bread Because that’s what our Swedish-American family does. I think it was a violation of church state, but when I was young, the St. Lucia Festival was held in the high school because it was so large that no local church could hold it. There was always a parade of girls dressed in white and one of them was chosen to be Lucia.
I was curious to see if anyone was celebrating St. Lucia in Second Life this year, and sure enough, I found three events. Since the two of them are in a sex club, I guess it won’t be traditional.
But there is a delay 16th celebration I think it’s a bit more decorative.

Neaira Allezier It shows Santa Lucia from a more oblique angle. I quite like this photo. It’s very simple, but offers interesting angles, use of light and shadow, and a very clean portrait of Lucia.
I was surprised at how few people showed me photos of Santa Lucia Day, but I consider myself lucky to live in a community that always celebrates Santa Lucia Day. Like Second Life, Portland also celebrates on the 16th. Still, I’m glad to see some people celebrating. Now if only I had saffron bread.
