Shanghai authorities have expressed the city’s interest in helping Microsoft promote AI technology to boost local businesses.

Shanghai Communist Party Secretary Chen Jining expressed the city’s interest in encouraging Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology to boost local businesses during a meeting with Microsoft President and Vice Chairman Brad Smith. .
Shanghai authorities also expressed the city’s openness to potential collaboration with Microsoft on research into technology-related governance frameworks and standards.
Currently, Microsoft provides more than 20 AI products in China. The company also supports AI software and application development at local research campuses. Additionally, thousands of Chinese employees work within the company. This commitment from Microsoft significantly contributes to the advancement of China’s AI expertise.
In 2014, Microsoft became the first foreign company to provide public cloud computing services in the Chinese market. In March of this year, the company announced plans to integrate OpenAI into its suite of cloud services in the region.
Shanghai accelerates focus on AI
In recent years, Shanghai has focused on developing the AI field, resulting in significant growth in the scale of the AI industry. In 2021, the city’s total output value of AI enterprises exceeded $42.73 billion.
Shanghai has also strategically identified AI as one of three key industries for intensive development, along with integrated circuits and biomedical sciences.
