Today marks the 100th anniversary of a pivotal moment in galactic history: the signing of a peace treaty by Bekalu, Armi.eldr, and Charon Gotti, ending the disastrous Convergence War. As a direct witness to this historical event, I look back on the profound realization that dawned on me that day: the understanding that war between us would inevitably lead to the collapse of civilization and plunge Gaul into thousands of years of darkness.
A century has passed and I stand before you rejoicing that we have successfully avoided this terrible fate. Through our collective sacrifice, unwavering dedication, and tireless effort, we have built a powerful Galactic Federation. This Commonwealth is a bastion of liberty, prosperity, equality, and peace, protecting the rights and welfare of all its citizens.
Our unified galactic economy, free of prejudice and regional divides, empowers members of all species to traverse the Starpath and engage in lawful commerce throughout the civilized regions of Galia. The results are visible. Life expectancy has soared within the Safe Zone, and under our careful governance, no citizen of the world suffers from crime, poverty or hunger.
We honor the founding trio – Bekalu, Armi.eldr and Charon Gotti – and believe that their spirits rejoice in the legacy they have passed on to their descendants.
Today we stand on the cusp of a new chapter in looking beyond the home system. Our galactic relatives, the inhabitants of the Medium Zone are eager to integrate into our thriving ecosystem. We eagerly look forward to their inclusion, despite the challenges posed by forces that thrive on chaos in their domains.
We have witnessed and confronted the forces of darkness in the Medium Zone, including the dismantling of Frenir’s slave cartel and the defeat of the Zorvik pirate fleet. These victories demonstrate our commitment to extending the values of freedom and justice beyond our borders.
However, we recognize and respect the desire for political autonomy within our executives. The Council respects their wish for sovereignty if it serves our common goal of a united and peaceful Gaul.
In this spirit, as Secretary-General of the Peace Council, I am proud to announce significant changes in our approach to the Medium Zone. Effective immediately, the peace council will suspend all military operations there. Instead, we will focus on fostering peaceful trade and social inclusion. In the coming weeks, we will begin registering private companies eager to develop commercial relationships and strengthen the existing galactic commercial infrastructure in the mid-sector.
This announcement is not just a policy change. This is a milestone in Gaul’s journey towards permanent peace, paralleling the significance of the peace treaty itself.
Let us celebrate our peace together.
