OpenAI, creator of the popular artificial intelligence (AI) platform ChatGPT, has introduced a new memory feature designed to help chatbots remember details from previous conversations.
According to OpenAI, in a company statement, users can instruct ChatGPT to remember specific information so they don’t have to repeat the same data to the chatbot. The new Memory feature provides users with greater personalization and includes a “Forget” tool. Users can turn off the memory feature by pressing a few buttons in the personalization options along with a text input option to forget the available memories.
Users can view and delete specific memories in the Personalization tab along with the ‘Ad hoc chat’ option. According to OpenAI, users can use ad-hoc chat options for tasks that do not require memory, and conversations are not stored and are not used to train large-scale language models (LLMs).
To increase privacy, OpenAI says users can opt out of having their memories used to train and improve models.
With statements confirming the chatbot’s ability to remember format preferences, tone, and voice style, businesses appear to be the biggest beneficiaries of this feature.
