NFT Traders Face Security Crisis: Millions of Dollars in Tokens Theft

On December 16, a security breach occurred on the NFT Trader platform, resulting in millions of dollars worth of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) being obtained illegally.

The incident was acknowledged by the person himself. NFT Trader on X (formerly Twitter)Targeted older smart contracts.

Users were advised to immediately revoke delegations to specific addresses.

Various NFT losses

Among the NFTs stolen were at least 13 Mutant Ape Yacht Club and 37 Bored Ape tokens, along with VeeFriends and World of Women NFTs.

Losses are assessed as follows: Cancel.CashIt was worth almost $3 million.

As the cryptocurrency community grappled with the aftermath, misinformation spread on social media, adding to the confusion.

The scale of the hack remains unclear due to uncertainty about how many hackers exploited the security flaws.

In a public message, one of the attackers distanced himself from the initial attack and attributed it to another user.

They demanded a ransom in exchange for the return of the stolen NFTs.

One of the attackers wrote:

“At first, I came here to pick up the leftover trash as usual. At first, I thought I could only get TOKEN, but eventually I found out that I could also get NFT. I’m a good person, the value of this NFT is enough for a person to live a free life, but I’m not interested in that. “I prefer picking up leftover trash.”

Attacker Reward Offer

Despite their limited technical capabilities, the attackers offered a 10% Ether (ETH) bounty in exchange for returning the victims’ NFTs.

The attackers wrote:

“My technical skills are limited. You won’t be able to get all affected NFTs at once, and it will take a lot of energy and time. (…) If you want to get the monkey back, you have to pay me a bounty.

This unusual incident involved a victim who reported that a rare NFT was unexpectedly returned along with 31 ETH worth approximately $70,680.

The victim expressed disbelief, questioning the surreal nature of X’s situation.
