Mumbai Metaverse: Connecting Technology and Urban Development

Imagine a virtual city where bustling cityscapes and complex infrastructure come to life before your eyes. This futuristic vision is now a reality thanks to the Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse project, which serves as a digital twin of the city.

During Mumbai Tech Week on February 18, Maharashtra Tourism Department in collaboration with Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM) launched the Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse. The project aims to revolutionize urban governance by providing a virtual replica of Mumbai, incorporating cutting-edge technologies to educate and engage citizens.

Virtual Infrastructure Showcase

Metaverse provides an immersive experience showcasing major infrastructure projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). From Mumbai’s coastal roads to Navi Mumbai International Airport, citizens can explore these adventures through virtual reality (VR) devices, user-friendly mobile apps and the official Maharashtra tourism platform.

By simulating 12 major infrastructure projects, the Digital Twin Metaverse aims to increase public understanding of the technical aspects, costs and environmental impacts involved. The plan promotes sustainable infrastructure development and encourages community support to shape the future of Mumbai, a city of more than 21 million residents.

Mumbai Tech Week Celebration

A vibrant celebration of the city’s tech ecosystem, Mumbai Tech Week serves as a platform for collaboration and innovation. The event, featuring 46 technology companies, opens with a grand opening at the Jio World Convention Center and concludes by highlighting Metaverse as a key destination to participate in Mumbai’s technological advancement.

Key figures including Smriti Irani, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and representatives from Meta, Microsoft and Google will participate in discussions during Mumbai Tech Week. TEAM, the driving force behind Mumbai’s tech ecosystem, champions this initiative with its 46 member companies.

In recent developments, urban centers around the world have been embracing digital transformation by integrating Metaverse technology into public services. Last year, the city of Seoul took a major step forward by launching the Metaverse SEOUL initiative, which allows residents to access city services within a virtual environment.

This pioneering effort, highlighted by Mayor Oh Se-hoon, has successfully transitioned from the beta stage to one of TIME’s 200 Best Inventions of 2022. The platform is a tool for Seoul citizens, facilitating virtual connections and access to official documents and complaints. This is a report and tax-related inquiry.

Following Seoul’s example, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in collaboration with the Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau, recently launched the “HELLO! Tokyo Friends.” Utilizing both metaverse and AR technology, this interactive portal is designed to enhance Tokyo’s appeal as a tourist destination on a national and global scale, with the goal of growing the Tokyo enthusiast community.
