Moonray Studios is expanding beyond its original PC release by bringing its Ethereum-based multiplayer game Moonray to mobile platforms.
First released in Early Access on the Epic Games Store, the game combines traditional game mechanics with optional blockchain features, attracting investments from major companies such as Animoca Brands, Polygon Ventures, and Cardano.
Moonray seeks to expand its presence in the gaming market through mobile releases, while also developing its unique IP across multiple platforms.
What is Moonray?
Moonray is a science fiction combat game set in a distant posthuman world where players engage in melee combat.
Known for its simple mechanics that appeal to both casual and professional players, the game first launched on the Epic Games Store last July and is still available in Early Access.
Built on Ethereum, Moonray integrates optional web3 features such as token trading and wallet connectivity to provide blockchain interaction for players who wish to use it. However, these features are optional, so existing gamers can play without using blockchain elements.
What can we expect from the mobile launch?
The mobile version of Moonray is supported by the MNRY protocol, a tool developed by the Miium Foundation to enable seamless blockchain interaction across PC and mobile platforms.
The game combines blockchain and traditional gaming features to cater to a wider range of players, from web3 enthusiasts to those only interested in traditional gaming experiences.
The studio is partnering with Reel FX to develop an animated series based on Moonray, with the goal of further developing the game’s story and characters. Additionally, the graphic novel Mother’s Skin is available at select retailers in North America and the United Kingdom, providing new content for fans of the game’s sci-fi universe.
What’s next for Moonray?
Moonray Studios also plans to release Moonray on additional platforms, with a target release date for PlayStation 5 in 2025.
Currently available in alpha on the Epic Games Store, developers are targeting a mobile release to increase player engagement and expand the game’s audience.
The upcoming console release represents the next step in Moonray’s strategy to make the science fiction universe accessible across a variety of platforms.
