Midjourney metaverse? The CEO reportedly gave a hint about the construction of the building. "Real-time open world holodeck"

I’ve reached out to official channels to confirm this, but according to some attendees (like here and here), Midjourney CEO David Holz made a very surprising announcement during the startup’s public office hours earlier this week.

Specifically, he appears to suggest that Midjourney is preparing to deploy some kind of metaverse platform.

As an attendee Nick St. Pierre On Twitter/X, Holz said:

(H)e believes we “could reach the holodeck” by 2024.

“We are going to make a lot of things this year. We think we’ll make more than we’ve ever made before… “We hope to have a real-time open world by the end of 2024.”

In general, I am immediately skeptical about this due to mere hearsay. First of all, for the reasons explained here, creating dynamic virtual worlds is not simply a matter of generating 3D graphics.

But the problem is: Second Life founder Philip Rosedale is a senior advisor at Midjourney..

He is listed under that name on the startup’s website. But this could of course be a coincidence, or Holz’s comments this week could be wrong. I hope we can get an official answer on this.
