The partnership is focused on bringing Horizon services to the new Jio VR headset. The news comes just over a year after Jio introduced JioDive, a VR headset that comes with its smart glasses product.

At the 2023 India Mobile Congress (IMC), Jio unveiled its spatial computing device Jio Glass for the first time. Apart from various electronic devices like laptops, smartphones, and broadband gadgets, it has also entered the XR market with the JioGlass head-mounted display.

Meta Horizon Open OS, Vision Pro Competition Held

Meta recently launched “Ocean,” a new open-source cross-platform framework for building computer vision and mixed/augmented reality applications. This follows the recent news that Horizon has landed on Jio hardware.

The Ocean framework is interoperable and supports applications across a wide range of operating systems and devices, including iOS, Android, Quest, macOS, Windows, and Linux.

Meta released Ocean under the MIT license to ensure cross-platform compatibility, openness, and efficiency. The Ocean framework includes tools to support tasks related to developing mixed/augmented reality applications, such as geometry support, media processing, networking, and rendering.

Meta has opened up the Meta Horizon OS, which powers its Quest product portfolio, to third-party developers, allowing a broader range of developers to build applications for Meta’s XR product portfolio.

Additionally, Meta has adopted an open approach, providing developers with a customizable framework for specific solutions. Zuckerberg also mentioned that Meta is working with industry leaders including Lenovo, ASUS, and Xbox to develop headsets designed for specific use cases.
