Lion Global Investors and Nomura Asset Management Unveil Singapore's First AI-Based Active ETF

Lion Global Investors and Nomura Asset Management have jointly launched the Lion-Nomura Japan Active ETF, Singapore’s first actively managed ETF powered by AI. We leverage proprietary AI and machine learning models to provide exposure to the Japanese stock market through a portfolio of 50-100 securities.

The ETF’s initial offering period is from January 5 to 25, 2024, and it will be listed on the Singapore Exchange on January 31, 2024. It is available in Singapore and US dollars. However, investors are advised to carefully consider the risks as outlined in the disclaimer provided and to read the prospectus before making any investment decision.

According to the announcement, this joint effort aims to meet growing investor demand for cost-effective, actively managed solutions in today’s evolving macroeconomic environment.

Teo Joo Wah, CEO of Lion Global Investors, said the launch of the Lion-Nomura Japan Active ETF (Powered by AI) and expansion of LGI’s active ETF footprint underlines the company’s mission to serve clients’ needs for cost-effective solutions. Actively managed and agile for more efficient portfolio management, especially in today’s evolving macroeconomic environment.

“Expanding our offerings to include active ETFs demonstrates our response to changing investor demands and our commitment to broadening access to LGI’s strategies. “Our collaboration with Nomura Asset Management to launch the first Japan-centric themed active ETF utilizing AI models reflects our shared commitment to providing efficient investment solutions to Singapore investors.”

Integrating AI and ML models into ETFs

The Lion-Nomura Japan Active ETF takes a unique approach by integrating AI and machine learning models developed by LGI and Nomura. The model analyzes fundamental, technical, qualitative and quantitative factors to construct a portfolio of 50 to 100 securities listed on the Japanese stock market.

The main goal is to achieve long-term capital growth by dynamically responding to market changes through frequent portfolio rebalancing.

“SGX Group congratulates Lion Global Investors and Nomura Asset Management for pioneering Singapore’s first active ETF. This is a new milestone for our expanding ETF shelf, demonstrating product innovation and diversity for increased investor adoption in the ETF ecosystem,” said Janice Kan, Co-Head of Equities at SGX Group.

“By leveraging AI, this active ETF adopts a dynamic approach, allowing investment managers to respond to market changes through more frequent portfolio rebalancing. This launch also provides a timely opportunity for investors to capitalize on the renewed interest in the Japanese stock market,” added Kan.

This collaboration also represents a timely opportunity for investors to capitalize on the renewed interest in the Japanese stock market. CEO Hua Teo pointed out that both AI and Japan are themes that are receiving great attention from investors, and that the new strategy aims to provide customers with easy access to Japan through actively managed ETFs.
