Linden Lab hired to update Second Life-related web services and new In-World features

Linden Lab SL Web Mobile Extension

Ahead of the launch of Second Life’s long-awaited mobile app this year, Linden Lab is also updating SL-related web services and various in-world functions. We know this because Linden Lab is currently hiring two people to work on the project.

Server Application Engineer

We’re looking for a Server Application Engineer to join Second Life’s Server team and help develop the continuous real-time simulation software and support services that underpin one of the world’s longest-running and richest virtual worlds. As part of this job, you will be expected to work frequently with users to ensure the team delivers important projects relevant to the needs of residents and have the opportunity to work using a wide range of web, networking and simulation technologies.

Specifically, this job description also mentions the following tasks: "New in-world scripting behavior". So this seems like an ideal job for a veteran Second Life content creator who wants a relatively stable role with a good salary.

Add another job posting for a Senior Software Engineer with a focus on the web.

Senior Software Engineer – Full Stack (Web)

Our team is working to modernize all Second Life web properties and add exciting new features. While many companies have the same drive for engineering excellence, our company has a deep culture of collaboration, learning, and helping each other. You will have the opportunity to influence almost every aspect of the Second Life user experience. From selling items on a virtual goods marketplace to finding things to do, to buying a virtual home; We also contribute to mobile viewers.

I emphasize this because the fact that they are integrating web services with mobile apps is worth highlighting! The salary range for both roles is $121,000 to $193,000, which is pretty decent for a remote location.
