Liminal Custody, a cryptocurrency custody service provider known for providing decentralized custody solutions, is currently facing significant backlash from WazirX customers. Recently, Liminal Custody disabled the comments section on X (formerly Twitter) posts to stem the influx of negative and abusive messages.
Four months ago, WazirX’s cold wallet was hacked, resulting in the loss of 50% of customer funds. Following this incident, WazirX and Liminal Custody publicly accused each other of alleged negligence that allegedly enabled the hack. Since then, WazirX customers have increasingly expressed their anger in the comments section of Liminal Custody’s posts, leading Liminal Custody to restrict comments to prevent further offensive remarks.
Some users claimed that WazirX and Liminal hired third-party paid auditors, whose results appeared to be biased in favor of both companies.
Indian cryptocurrency users on They claim this tactic is an attempt to avoid responding to customers’ concerns.
Temporary Custody and WazirX
The main parties responsible for the WazirX hacking incident are still unclear. Third-party auditors have found Liminal’s systems to be secure and free of vulnerabilities. Initially, WazirX executives accused Liminal Custody of negligence, while Liminal countered that WazirX executives may have allowed unauthorized access to hackers. Since then, WazirX has distanced itself from Liminal Custody.
Last month, Liminal Custody reported that WazirX still has $50 million worth of cryptocurrency on its platform. However, Liminal claims it no longer has control over these assets because WazirX executives hold the passwords needed to access them.
