LG launches Business Metaverse – XR Today

Following its recent partnership with Meta, LG Electronics is launching the first enterprise-grade Metaverse platform for HVAC installers and professionals. According to the company, the ‘LG Air Solution Village’ metaverse provides HVAC professionals with an immersive space for a variety of use cases, including virtual showrooms and functional installation simulations.

LG is creating a platform for HVAC professionals in its Air Solutions Europe division. Despite its recent partnership with Meta, the Menlo Park-based company is not working with LG on the Metaverse platform. Instead, Spatial is providing a hardware-agnostic service for the LG Air Solution Village service.

LG Electronics plans to hold product launches, Q&A sessions, and industry talks through a virtual showcase event. LG is also attempting to use the Metaverse platform to allow B2B customers to review new products from LG Air Solutions, such as the THERMA V air-to-water heat pump and the MULTI VVRF system. The company says its product digital twin captures accurate data to enable “comprehensive understanding” for B2B customers.

Peter Verkempynck, Executive Director of LG Air Solution EuropeAdded:

We are excited to introduce LG Air Solution Village, a customized virtual experience for HVAC installers. This metaverse opens up new possibilities for exploration, learning, and collaboration within the HVAC industry.

LG and Meta begin partnership

LG Chairman Jo Joo-wan It was announced in January that the company’s TV division was developing an XR device and planned to launch it next year. In recent years Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had a two-hour meeting with LG CEO William Cho and Home Entertainment President Park Hyeong-se.Future collaboration on XR devices will be discussed at LG Twin Tower in Yeouido, Seoul.

The meeting marks the launch of a strategic collaboration between LG and Meta to use their combined technology portfolio to drive innovation in XR devices and enhance customer experiences.

At the meeting, LG CEO William Cho demonstrated Meta’s Quest 3 headset, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, and a large language model. “We see opportunities for next-generation personal devices in the XR business,” said CEO Cho, citing the potential to utilize meta technology in AI-enabled XR devices.

LG believes that it can create a technology ecosystem by combining TV division services and Meta’s XR portfolio. LG also plans to showcase the benefits of a smart device OS that works in conjunction with Meta’s AI system to create competitive XR devices.

LG’s Smart OS provides an app revenue platform worth approximately $750.5 million for Meta’s portfolio of immersive products. The OS could provide a valuable revenue stream and service to help Meta’s XR hardware ecosystem compete with Apple’s Vision Pro products.

While LG’s Metaverse launch appears separate from its hardware ambitions, LG’s internal efforts to leverage XR services such as the Metaverse platform provider show that the company is investing in and researching the benefits of immersive applications.

The impact of LG Air Solution Village may not translate into consumer products or broader enterprise products. But LG may also be laying a stepping stone for further forays into XR solutions.
