I am lying down due to severe pain in my neck and shoulders, and since I have no work today, I am lying on the sofa, blogging on my iPad, and resting my neck on a good pillow. In addition to visiting my family doctor and a physical therapist (who also practices acupuncture), I started seeing a massage therapist. I had an hour massage on Friday morning and felt great afterwards. But the aches and pains in my neck and shoulders returned, disrupting my Friday night plans and leaving me feeling unwell and anxious all weekend.
All of this is coming at a time when we need to be healthy enough to attend the Metaverse Conference this week! The IMMERSIVE Instead of getting on a plane to attend Meatspace’s physical conference, all you have to do is put on your VR headset and attend in cyberspace!
But my physical pain today does not bode well for my metaverse journey on Tuesday (Remembrance Day in Canada, if not Germany), Wednesday, and Thursday. Please take care! You’ll probably need to rest between sessions to pop painkillers, use hot and cold packs, and do prescribed physical therapy exercises to help you overcome them. But come hell or high water, I is On the way!!
I started preparing for the conference last week, revisiting some social VR platforms I hadn’t visited in months, and making sure I could still remember how to log in and navigate the Vive Pro 2 PCVR setup I have in my office (sadly neglected since I began my well-documented love affair with the Apple Vision Pro).
I must admit that when I logged into my VRChat account on their website, I was surprised to discover that I first signed up for VRChat 8 years ago! (You can find all of my blog posts about VRChat here.)

And likewise, I first joined ENGAGE in July 2018. That means we’ve been using the Metaverse platform for over 7 years now! (You can find all of my blog posts about ENGAGE here.) I’m especially glad that the organizers were able to include me in Andy Fidel’s keynote State of the Metaverse presentation at ENGAGE (huge thanks to Thomas Zorbach and his team!).

In addition to VRChat and ENGAGE, I registered for sessions on three other metaverse platforms: Spatial, Foretell Reality, and Hubs. I’ve used Spatial and (formerly Mozilla) Hubs before, but Foretell Reality is new to me.
So, I hope to be able to post my session notes on the blog starting tomorrow. And in the meantime, I will rest, take painkillers, do physical therapy, and pray that my body can hold on. Stay tuned!
