As we continue to walk the path of innovation and collaboration, we present the third revision of our proposed ‘node-based cumulative lifetime points’ system. This update is the culmination of critical analysis, extensive community dialogue, and numerous insightful revisions that have shaped our approach to network decentralization.

We are pleased to announce that our governance voting platform has been thoroughly audited by independent security firm CertiK, adding another layer of trust and integrity to the process. Additionally, we have deployed a transparent node vote tracking system on Discord to increase transparency and engagement within the community.

Among the many contributors to the extensive discussion, AnthonyRa’s comments stand out for their creativity and depth. His proposals, such as locked pools for issuing game-specific tokens, have sparked lively debate and are indeed innovative, but it is important to recognize that many of these ideas are outside the scope of the Node ecosystem. These proposals may not be implemented in the context of Founders Node voting, but they represent the ingenuity of our community and the potential of decentralized development. As GalaChain becomes available for other games, we expect to be able to explore and build on these ideas in a decentralized way.

The synergies between communities, governance mechanisms and transparent processes highlight our commitment to a more secure and decentralized future. This third edition is a testament to what we can achieve through collaboration, openness, and a shared vision.

Edits to previous discussion draft

Countless hours of communication, emails, AMAs, and widespread engagement through live streams have created an incredible atmosphere of creativity and collaboration within our community. Your valuable insights and innovative thinking directly led to the realization of several practical modifications to the final version of the proposal.

1.) Abstain: Based on community feedback, an “abstain” option has been included in the voting process. This allows members to actively participate in the decision-making process without having to choose between key options, while acknowledging the complexity of the proposals and respecting individual preferences.

2.) 5 nodes exemption: To encourage more equitable participation, the logarithmic function for bonus point allocation now starts after five nodes are operational. These changes create a more inclusive ecosystem that supports the network’s decentralization goals by ensuring that smaller operators are not disadvantaged. This reflects our commitment to balance and fairness within our community.

3.) Log adjustment: After extensive community discussion and analysis, the log value has been revised to 7.7 instead of the previously suggested 6.5 (DrWookie variable). This alignment aligns with the broader incentive structure and reduces the gap between lower tiers of node operators.

4.) Adjust your “Free Mint” allowance: A new clause has been added to the proposal, revising the previous free mint allowance from 5% to 20%. This allows operators to take away a portion of their $GALA without deducting points to fund server costs or make necessary purchases. This change recognizes the operational costs associated with maintaining Founders Nodes. Note: This is equivalent to 20% of the average daily mint per Founders Node for that day (totalDailyMint/50,000) that can be minted on GalaChain without points deduction. However, this is a daily allowance and is not cumulative. This ensures that operators take advantage of it to actively participate and not become “set it and forget it” operators.

You can see the full Mint proposal below. Some of them repeat what has already been said, but are included in the official proposal text for completeness.

introduction

This governance proposal presents an innovative bonus point structure based on the concept of “node-based cumulative lifetime points”. This strategy focuses on the number of nodes operated by users, with the goal of countering platform centralization and promoting decentralization within the ecosystem. With the proposed system, you will accumulate points for life every day, which are directly related to your active participation in the community.

What we offer

We propose the adoption of a new logarithmic function P = 7.7*log10(N) for bonus point allocation beyond 5 nodes. Here, N refers to the number of nodes operated by the user, and P refers to the points granted. Below are points for various node numbers (N) using this function, rounded to two decimal places.

1 node operation: = 1 point
2-node operation: = 2 points
Operating 3 nodes: = 3 points
4 nodes operation: = 4 points
5 nodes operation: = 5 points
6-node operation: 7.7*log10(6) ≒ 5.99 points
Operating 7 nodes: 7.7*log10(7) ≒ 6.50 points
8-node operation: 7.7*log10(8) ≒ 6.95 points
9 nodes operated: 7.7*log10(9) ≒ 7.34 points
Operates 10 nodes: 7.7*log10(10) ≒ 7.70 points
Operates 25 nodes: 7.7*log10(25) ≒ 10.76 points
Operates 50 nodes: 7.7*log10(50) ≒ 13.08 points
Operating 100 nodes: 7.7*log10(100) ≒ 15.40 points
Operates 250 nodes: 7.7*log10(250) ≒ 18.46 points
Operating 500 nodes: 7.7*log10(500) ≒ 20.78 points
Operating 1000 nodes: 7.7*log10(1000) ≒ 23.10 points
Operating 7000 nodes: 7.7*log10(7000) ≒ 29.60 points

This updated log function encourages decentralization of node operations while leaving smaller operators unaffected.

These points are accumulated in addition to the “base distribution” points that node operators receive for operating a node. This means:

A user running one Founder’s Node will have:

Day 1: 1 basic point and 1 bonus point (total 2 points)
Day 2: 1 basic point + 1+1 bonus point (total 3 points)
Day 3: 1 basic point + 1+1+1 bonus point (total 4 points)
… etc.

A user running 10 Founders Nodes will have:

Day 1: 10 basic points + 7.7 bonus points (total 17.7 points)
Day 2: Basic points 10 points + Bonus points 7.7+7.7 (total 25.4 points)
Day 3: 10 basic points + 7.7+7.7+7.7 bonus points (total 33.1 points)
… etc.

These values are approximate and may vary slightly due to rounding.

Cumulative Life Points are added to the distribution daily, rewarding consistent node operators over time. However, these bonus points will be deducted when the user mints $GALA at a rate roughly equal to the half rate using the following schedule:

tranche 1: 1 point per 1000 GALA issued on GalaChain
tranche 2: 1 point for every 500 GALA issued on GalaChain
tranche 3: 1 point for every 250 GALA issued on GalaChain
tranche 4: 1 point for every 125 GALA issued on GalaChain
tranche 5: 1 point for every 62.5 GALA issued on GalaChain

This mint fee in the form of bonus points creates a dynamic ecosystem where Founders Node operators move up and down the distribution ranks based on their actions.

A daily “free mint” allowance is also provided. This is equivalent to 20% of the average daily emissions per node for that day (totalDailyFNMint/50,000) that can be minted on GalaChain without deducting points. However, this is a daily allowance and is not cumulative. This ensures that node operators utilizing it are actively engaged and not “set it and forget it” operators.

Note: It is not possible to drop below your daily base distribution point total.

New Founder’s Nodes joining the ecosystem will start with the lowest total Node Bonus Points among currently operating nodes, giving them a fair starting point and ensuring they are not penalized by having to catch up from zero. This will initially introduce an incentive to decentralize nodes to “reset” bonus points after mints, but will gradually trend downward as more people create mints and participate in the ecosystem. This is to prevent serious imbalances from occurring.

implementation period

If passed, this distribution will be in effect for 12 months from the effective date. To ensure continued community engagement, a new discussion will begin after nine months to assess the effectiveness of the system and decide whether it should be continued, adjusted or reverted. A follow-up proposal will be presented in 10 months, and the community will vote on the next steps. System changes may take at least 60 days to take effect.

As with previous revisions, comprehensive feedback from the community has been invaluable in improving the ‘Node-Based Accumulated Lifetime Points’ system. As we make these modifications, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, participatory, and vibrant community and to continuing to maximize decentralization.

As always, your feedback is very valuable. The next stage of this journey promises to be an exciting voyage toward a more decentralized, robust, and sustainable network. Let’s continue to shape the future of blockchain technology together.
