GalaChain SDK: “Price Perspective” | Gala Games | February 2024

Hear from a leading chain wizard. GalaChain SDK is a turning point in the decentralized world.

Not long ago, we announced the first public release of GalaChain’s software development kit (SDK), which provides developers with everything they need to build L1 blockchains. Soon after, we announced the initial launch of the Gala Creator Portal, a user-friendly interface that guides developers through the creative process and allows them to manage their collections and ecosystem.

Our live games are already using our Creator Portal to power their games and manage web3 features like rewards, trading, NFT issuance, and more. Gala Music used the Creator Portal to build a self-service artist interface that allows musicians to submit and upload content without any barriers. So many new projects are heading to GalaChain that you can almost feel the earth shaking with their approach.

Today we’d like to share some of what we call “price perspectives,” courtesy of Archmage Adam Price, the intrepid leader of the GalaChain team and the intrepid moderator of our company-wide meetings. This guy knows blockchain and we have been honored by his presence and expertise since Gala Games was founded. So let’s get started.

What are the factors preventing mainstream public adoption of blockchain technology, and how is Gala preparing to address these challenges?

I believe there will be a turning point soon. The mainstream public doesn’t really understand the point of blockchain technology. And it doesn’t help that attempts to learn more about it often run into complicated technical jargon or the latest pump-and-dump meme coin. We’re starting to see this more and more as subscription-based, centralized web2 services and platforms expand massively. You no longer own what you pay for. They can take it from you at any time. You are granted access to such content as permitted by your Overlord. So it seems to me that the only thing the general public really needs to know about blockchain technology is that, as a consumer, you will finally have control again. Only you control what happens to content you own.

Building apps that are easy to use, reduce friction for adoption, and increase security for everyone are just implementation details that will improve over time.

Even in 2024, the word ‘blockchain’ tends to be repulsive to general developers. Why is GalaChain more attractive to developers than other blockchains?

Most existing blockchain technologies have a very steep learning curve. However, GalaChain allows smart contracts to be written in TypeScript, a programming language that is much more familiar to modern developers. TypeScript is a descendant of JavaScript, which is practically essential for modern web application development and has been the most used programming language for 11 consecutive years. Compared to Solidity (for Ethereum smart contracts) or Rust (for Solana smart contracts), there are far more developers who know and are comfortable using TypeScript. StackOverflow’s 2023 Developer Survey shows this very clearly. JavaScript is the most commonly used language, used by 63% of respondents. TypeScript ranked 5th with 38%. Rust is at 13% and Solidity is at 1.3%.

Our mission at GalaChain is to make this powerful web3 technology more accessible to all software developers. The more people develop skills, the better for everyone.

Those of you who have been working with Gala for a while know that “interoperability” is one of our favorite words. Please tell me why.

Interoperability is the idea that technologies, software, or even entire products can work together, usually in a synergistic way. Interoperability is enabled by standards. By establishing an explicit way to do something, or presenting a specific agreed-upon interface for interaction, everything tends to “Just Work” together, allowing for more comprehensive possibilities.

Good examples that demonstrate the power of standards and interoperability in web3 are token standards such as ERC-20 and ERC-1155. Because of community-wide adoption, fungible and non-fungible tokens are now a feature that can be interoperable with and depend on any blockchain software. The modern web3 ecosystem would look very different without these standards. Even something as simple as a wallet showing multiple tokens in a consistent way is impossible.

Promoting and enabling interoperability and standards is how we all become stronger and achieve greater and greater goals. This is because it is not possible with just one developer or one team. A rising tide lifts all boats!

Why is the GalaChain SDK important to Gala?

This GalaChain SDK release marks the first time anyone can start building on GalaChain. There are no strings associated with it. This is the culmination of over 20 years of developer work providing the world with the ability to help developers build the next generation of blockchain technology. GalaChain SDK includes everything you need in one easy-to-use package. The entire execution instance of the document, tool, or chain itself. It works on all mainstream platforms and offers a highly ergonomic developer environment with features like hot reloading, making it quick and easy to build and test chain functionality. GalaChain is now open for business!

Gala appears to become more decentralized with each update. How do we balance the chaotic freedom of complete decentralization with the tight control of a centralized core company?

I imagine it’s like being a parent! You spend your formative years doing your best to prepare what you’ve created for the “real world.” Before you know it, you are no longer in control! You may offer advice or try to steer things in a certain direction, but you have no direct authority. It will have its own life, make its own decisions, and experience itself. It’s scary and stressful. But it is very rewarding, satisfying and exciting. Ultimately, all you can do is do your best to succeed.

What are some developer resources that you weren’t able to provide in the SDK that you plan to provide at some point in the future?

The current GalaChain SDK includes everything you need to develop GalaChain smart contracts or GalaChain integrated applications, but the examples are very basic. In the future we would like to provide more examples of advanced features that may be provided as part of the SDK. This allows GalaChain developers to mix and match or build on advanced features to achieve bigger and better things.

As you envision a future with hundreds (or thousands) of projects built within the Gala ecosystem by external developers, what are your plans for support?

we need you! We are excited to invest time in nurturing the first wave of GalaChain early adopters, but the true mark of success will be when the open GalaChain developer ecosystem itself becomes the primary means of gaining support for GalaChain development. We have a GalaChain discrepancy of over 400 members, but we have seen that number grow to thousands and more. that much The hub of GalaChain development. With open source projects to learn from, seasoned GalaChain developers to show off your ideas, and a powerful SDK with all the tools and easy-to-use packages you need to get started in a language you’re familiar with, the GalaChain Discord is the place to be.

Does the SDK allow external developers to build their own node network generating their own tokens within the GalaChain ecosystem?

yes! Although this was not fully enabled in the first release of the GalaChain SDK, we believe this will be possible in the future. No, I won’t say WEN!

What is your favorite gala game and why?

It has to be a common ground world. I spent a lot of time working on the game at Gala. We were a small, scrappy team trying to do something that had never been done before. Looking at it now, it’s almost unrecognizable. It looks, feels and plays really good. The CGW team has done truly amazing things through their stewardship over the intervening months and years.

Lastly, there are rumors that your workspace is actually a wizard tower located somewhere beyond magic. Can you tell me more about that?

In fact, not even I can d̵i̴v̵u̷l̴g̴i̷n̸g̷i̴t̵s̸ ̷s̴e̷c̴r̷e̵s̵ due to the magical security built into the structure itself.
