Ethiopian Birr falls 30% after currency fluctuations; Foreign exchange withdrawal requirements abolished

The Ethiopian birr has fallen 30% against the dollar after the central bank floated the currency as part of reforms to correct distortions in the foreign exchange market. The bank also lifted foreign exchange waiver requirements and lifted restrictions on certain imports. In return, Ethiopia, which is seeking to join BRICS, is expected to receive $10.7 billion in loans.
