CoinMarketCap Launches ‘Cryptocurrency Academy’ to Celebrate Industry Achievements

CoinMarketCap announced the launch of the first CMC Crypto Awards to recognize the achievements of networks, people, and technology in the cryptocurrency industry.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place from February 21st to March 6th.

Winner selection will be based on CoinMarketCap data, insights from a panel of experts, and community votes, with winners announced on the final day of the event.

CoinMarketCap CEO Rush Luton said:

“Our intention is for the CMC Crypto Awards to become the most recognized annual event for Crypto and Web3. Think of it as the ‘Oscars of crypto’ – a fun way to bring the entire industry together and celebrate the people and projects that are driving the industry forward.”

CoinMarketCap plans to award excellence across eight distinct categories within the cryptocurrency space.

In the Crypto Leaders of the Year category, CoinMarketCap is honoring pioneers who are fighting against fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) and driving technological advancement, adoption, and regulatory progress globally.

Candidates included former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Mesari CEO Ryan Selkis, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) CEO Julia Leong.

The Meme Coin of the Year category aims to recognize humor and community engagement within the industry, and nominees include Pepe, Milady, Memecoin, Bonk and Ordinals.

The Most Innovative DeFi Award honors protocols that have uniquely contributed to the evolving landscape. Candidate projects are Uniswap, Unibot, EigenLayer, MakerDAO, and Friend.Tech.

The Most Innovative L1, L2, and Cross-Chain Project Awards are given to networks that demonstrate significant scalability, security, and interoperability improvements. Candidates include Arbitrum, Aptos, Axelar, ZKSync, and Celestia.

CoinMarketCap also wants to recognize the significant contributions of social media influencers in enriching cryptocurrency discourse and advancing the community. Candidates include Lookonchain, ZachXBT, CryptosRUs, Wendy O, and The DeFi Edge.

Finally, the Bridge Builder of the Year category aims to celebrate established brands that have adopted Web3 to increase customer value.
