Adobe AI Assistant available to Reader and Acrobat users

Software company Adobe has introduced advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features in its PDF reader to improve user experience.

The company recently revealed that AI features are now available in Acrobat and that Reader will receive the feature in the coming weeks. This feature, currently in beta, provides users with detailed summaries of PDFs and other documents in real time.

Generative AI capabilities use Adobe’s proprietary technology, Acrobat Liquid Mode, and other advanced machine learning services to improve service health. Early users will have access to an AI chatbot that can provide document summaries using an “intuitive conversational interface.”

New AI features provide users with intelligent citations, seamless navigation through links, and formatted output. Experts see similarities with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, but instead of asking users to paste text or upload documents, Adobe’s service offers a built-in experience.

A closer look at the statement reveals that this feature will expand beyond PDF to include other formats such as PowerPoint and Word. The company said the new AI feature will seek user consent before using their data to train an AI assistant.

Other safeguards for safe use of AI capabilities include adopting an agnostic approach to large language models (LLMs), enterprise-grade security, and alignment with Adobe’s AI ethics process.

“Generative AI promises a more intelligent document experience by transforming information within PDFs into actionable, knowledge-rich and professional content,” said Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Document Cloud.

“PDF is the de facto standard for the world’s most important documents, and the features introduced today are just the beginning of the value AI Assistant will deliver across Reader and Acrobat applications and services.”

rainThe right future for AI

In a statement, Adobe released a blueprint for integrating AI and other emerging technologies into its commercial products. As the company looks to introduce AI-based document creation, it has ambitious plans to expand its AI-powered summarization capabilities to a variety of document types.

In the coming months, users will have broader access to personalize their documents in addition to improved document collaboration with other users.

Adobe’s announcement remains coy about pricing, but suggests that new add-on subscription plans will be added at full product launch. Currently, Acrobat Standard and Pro Teams users have access to AI Assistant in beta, with English-speaking users given priority over other languages.

For artificial intelligence (AI) to function properly within the law and succeed in the face of growing challenges, it must integrate enterprise blockchain systems that ensure data input quality and ownership.
