Organizers of OSFest 2024, an annual festival taking place this October, recently launched a vote for this year’s theme in the Discord community. Festival attendees can vote via the OSFest Discord server or by emailing opensimfest@gmail.com to indicate their preferred theme from a variety of options by reacting with a specific emoji.

Voting closes on January 24th.

“For OSFest 2023, we conducted a poll to determine what the theme was for the year,” said Lisa Laxton, OSFest director and founder of the Infinite Metaverse Alliance and Laxton Consulting. “We loved this approach of giving the community a voice in this hypergrid community event, so we’re trying it again at OSFest 2024, but we’re in the early stages of planning based on feedback from last year’s attendees.”

An email notice went out this month detailing the festival dates from October 4 to October 20 and welcoming vendors, exhibitors and performers to participate. The festival is held at OSFest Grid, with some free land parcels available to qualified merchants and exhibitors.

Suggested themes for exhibitors this year include “Futurism,” “The Silk Road and Asian History,” “Burning Man and Woodstock Representations,” “Hypergrid Community Integration,” and “Creative Art and Architecture,” or there is no set theme. Performers and vendors do not have to follow the chosen theme.

“Participants requested longer lead times and themes so they could plan and create builds months before the grid opens so they can transfer builds from their home grids,” Laxton said.

Organizers plan to allow voting until Jan. 24 before deciding on this year’s official theme.

“We will have music, dance, art and trade fairs all in one place for two weeks, including one weekend,” Laxton said. “This is an all volunteer effort with a limited number of free parcels for exhibitors and merchants provided by grid sponsors.”

OSFest organizers are also looking for personnel, performers, artists, builders, scripters, merchants and promoters.

“The more volunteers we have, the more time each of us can devote to attending events and visiting exhibitions and stores within the OSFest Grid,” said Laxton.
