The in-game currency ATLAS is now Solana’s native currency with the potential for ecosystem-wide adoption. This allows Star Atlas players to use it to pay network transaction fees and rent instead of SOL.

Pay all your transactions with ATLAS!

Star Atlas has created another game changer for Solana by allowing ecosystem users to pay Solana transaction fees directly in ATLAS. The technical solution is called the ATLAS Protocol for a Real-Time In-Game Microtransaction Ecosystem (PRIME) and supports ATLAS direct payments. It can also be used by third parties, including community developers, wallets, and infrastructure builders.

Atlas PRIME simplifies the lives of users who from now on only need to hold one utility token, ATLAS. This allows for true simultaneous play and earn, replacing the need to sign all transactions with Solana through exclusive use of ATLAS, such as moving and crafting Star Atlas Golden Era (SAGE) game modules.

Michael Wagner, co-founder of Star Atlas and CEO of ATMTA, Inc., said:

“Atlas PRIME adds another key pillar to the long-term sustainability and sovereignty of the circular Star Atlas economy. This additional ATLAS token utility is another step in empowering people and enables the onboarding of a global player base.”

Atlas PRIME gives users complete control over their operations. Atlas PRIME is shipping as a pre-activated default feature that users can turn on or off.

The first Star Atlas feature to include the Atlas PRIME feature is the upcoming SAGE Labs game module. Additionally, Atlas PRIME allows players of Unreal Engine 5 games to use only one currency, ATLAS, significantly reducing friction and removing a major barrier to game adoption.

All Star Atlas products and services will implement direct ATLAS payment functionality in the future and will receive this functionality when the Star Atlas Account Program for that particular product is updated.

How it works

When a user pays a transaction fee in ATLAS, Atlas PRIME will cover the SOL on the user’s behalf. ATLAS does not convert directly to market exchange rates, but is tied to them.

There are fees associated with the ATLAS-SOL exchange rate, which is set by ATMTA and represents the studio’s revenue stream. The initial exchange rate fee is 115% ATLAS on 100% of the SOL equivalent. The 15% margin is determined based on the significant risks associated with holding volatile currencies and covering the infrastructure costs of the service, including ATLAS’ liquidity risk. Rates may change in the future.

Before developers can use Atlas PRIME in third-party apps, they need binding and endpoint information, available at build.staratlas.com.

In future Atlas PRIME feature expansions, users can expect more features, including enabling wallet auto-login, allowing multiple simultaneous security levels for assets and different wallet operations. This allows users to play games securely with a protected gaming session hot wallet via secure configuration through their Star Atlas account.
