Lee Bok-hyun, head of the Financial Supervisory Service, plans to meet with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler in Washington, D.C. next month to discuss cryptocurrency regulation. The visit will be the first meeting between the two as they aim to strengthen cooperation before South Korea’s new cryptocurrency law takes effect next year. The bill, which aims to strengthen consumer protection for cryptocurrency investors, is scheduled to go into effect in July 2024.
