Crypto.com and Fanatics Launch UEFA Champions League Final Coin Trading Card Activation

Cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com has announced its collaboration with Fanatics Collectibles, a global company specializing in licensed sports trading cards, to introduce a football memorabilia initiative tied to the UEFA Champions League Final in Budapest. This campaign gives one fan the chance to own the official physical Crypto.com Match Coin used in the finals through the release of limited edition trading cards.

As part of the activation, the official match coin of the UEFA Champions League Final will be embedded in a unique 1:1 premium Topps Now “Relic” trading card. Topps Now, a platform known for creating collectible cards related to major live sports moments, distributes opportunities through a random selection process. Fans who purchase the standard “base” card from Topps.com after the finals will automatically be entered for a chance to win an exclusive relic card.

In addition to physical collectibles, Match Coins are also certified as digital collectibles on the Cronos blockchain. According to the announcement, the tokenized version of the coin will provide access to additional experiences during the 2026/27 football season, including tickets to the UEFA Super Cup final, a league stage pass covering all eight matches of the selected club, and the opportunity to deliver match coins at the club’s season opener.

Blockchain Authentication and Fan Engagement Initiatives

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League final, match coins were transported via drone to Puskás Aréna in Budapest and presented by UEFA Ambassador Ashley Cole ahead of match day activities. In the final, a coin is expected to be handed to the referee for a ceremonial coin toss used to start the match. After the event, the coins will reportedly be taken to Topps’ printing facility in Munich to be inserted into single-edition Relic cards for the eventual winners.

“This exclusive activation with Topps allows us to combine the iconic matchday ritual of the coin toss with modern-day fandom and the opportunity to own a piece of history,” Nicholas Christ, global head of sponsorships at Crypto.com, said in a written statement. “By tokenizing real-world coins, we are uniting two groups – those of sports fans who collect NFTs and those who collect trading cards – while demonstrating how this real-world tokenization use case can ultimately become an investment asset on the blockchain,” he added.

This represents the conclusion of Crypto.com’s season-long Match Coin campaign linked to the UEFA Champions League. Fans who collected digital match coin collectibles throughout the season were given the opportunity to participate in exclusive experiences, including handing official match coins to referees before Champions League matches.
