On August 27th from 2pm to 5pm Tokyo time, the WebX side event titled ‘Bridging Real & Virtual: Global Meets Local in WebX’, co-hosted by CGV, XStar, and Starbase, and co-sponsored by mizu, Aylab, and LayerPixel, concluded successfully. The event brought together leading Japanese companies, projects, and communities, along with key industry organizations and projects, to explore the Japanese Web3 market and share insights on how to grow in the Japanese market.

CGV (Cryptogram Venture) A cryptocurrency investment company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Partner YZ provided an overview of CGV’s overall development and investment activities. Since 2017, the fund and its predecessors have invested in more than 200 projects, including investments and incubations of licensed yen-pegged stablecoins JPYW. CGV FoF is also a limited partner of several world-renowned cryptocurrency funds. CGV is also actively focusing on the development of Japanese Web3 startups and has successfully organized two Japan Web3 Hackathons (TWSH) from 2022, with joint support from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Keio University, NTT Docomo, and other institutions and experts. Recently, CGV invested in and incubated ML KOL Club and RONA.

ML KOL Club A service organization boasting a large community of outstanding opinion leaders from around the world. The team members come from regions such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam, and have extensive project experience in crypto asset investment and research, community operation, branding, and market promotion, as well as extensive KOL resources.

Rona RONA is a high-performance Web3 gaming ecosystem that combines advanced hardware and blockchain technology to provide players with immersive gaming experiences and monetization opportunities through gameplay. RONA integrates gaming, cryptocurrency mining, and AI computing power sharing to create a new ecosystem where players can enjoy gaming and achieve economic growth.

Currently, CGV has branches in Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, and Toronto, and is also a founding member of the Tokyo-based Bitcoin Tokyo Club.

X-Star is an Omnichain ID protocol designed for Proof of Humanity. Founder and CEO Ervin introduced how XStar’s decentralized identity system (DID) can be combined with Proof of Humanity to combat Sybil attacks. The system links Web2 social media accounts to provide anti-counterfeiting and anti-fraud capabilities within Web2 social networks. XStar’s comprehensive scoring system, known as Humanity Score (XHS), integrates biometric authentication, Web2 social graph analysis, and offline event participation to identify personality traits of users and on-chain addresses while protecting user privacy. XStar also provides an independent Proof of Humanity service platform for Web3 projects, allowing these projects to verify personality traits of participating addresses before the Token Generation Event (TGE) and offer discounted pricing plans to the first projects to use the service.

Starbase A web 3.0 accelerator focused on GameFi and AI. Founder Vivian introduced Starbase’s core operating model, which includes project investment, incubation, and acceleration. Starbase has invested in over 100 projects in various popular fields and provides funding support to startups. Currently accepting applications for Starbase’s ‘EverGrow Grant’ Phase 2, worth over $2 million. Selected projects can receive comprehensive funding ranging from $10,000 to $30,000, which will help reduce development costs.

Starbase provides four main types of support in terms of incubation and acceleration: consulting management including economic model design and fundraising strategy; user growth to increase project exposure in markets such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia through KOL and community networks; marketing to develop strategies to increase market awareness and engagement; and developer ecosystem support to provide essential development support by working with the global developer community.

Vivian also shared Starbase’s Asia tour plans. During the main industry conference, Starbase will co-host side events with leading industry organizations and regional partners to explore regional markets in depth, connect resources, and identify growth opportunities. Starbase has successfully hosted two Asia tour events to date, and is planning several more events in the near future.

Keynote | Aylab: Web3 User Acquisition Scale

Aylab is developing Aylab Traffic Loop (ATL), a revolutionary Web3 advertising engine designed to help Web3 projects attract a large number of mobile users on both Web2 and Web3. CEO Robert Zhang said that the Aylab team believes that the complexity of most Web3 projects and the need to pay gas fees are a major barrier to entry for Web2 users and new Web3 users. ATL aims to simplify this process, making it more intuitive for users to use and engage with applications. Currently, ATL has completed over 100 million on-chain transactions in cooperation with SUI, BASE, Mantle, opBNB, and Wormhole, and plans to collaborate with more Web3 projects to attract a larger user base in the future.

Panel 1: Exploring Japan’s Web3 Market

Japan’s active Web3 policy, unique market atmosphere, KOL influence and vibrant community culture are gradually making it an important market. More and more startups are actively expanding and seeking opportunities in this market. Panel 1 was a Japanese session led by Kaori, Anome’s Japanese Ambassador, and guests from well-known Japanese companies, projects and communities attended, such as Hara, CEO of JANCTION and CFO of JASMY, Kab, Director of ACG Worlds, Mack Suzuki, CEO and Founder of LEGENDARY HUMANITY, and Keisuke Horiguchi, Founder of GuildQB. The panelists shared their perspectives on the development of Web3 in Japan and insights on how overseas projects can enter the Japanese market.

Panel 2: AI Meets Cryptocurrency: Beyond Hype to Real-World Applications

AIxCrypto has quickly become a major narrative in the current market. As this trend develops, related applications, protocols, and infrastructures are continuously emerging. Panel 2 was moderated by Alex, Head of Strategy at XStar, and guests from renowned VC firms and projects attended: Kobby Chen, Investment Director at Fenbushi Capital, Kevin Qi, Investment Director at Mask Network, Jane, Director at CGV, and Sam, Co-founder of mizu. The panelists had an in-depth discussion on the current status of the AIxCrypto sector, its wide range of applications, and the potential and prospects for future development.
