Aleph Zero launches a super-fast, Ethereum-compatible layer 2, expanding privacy tools and enabling new apps compatible with the world’s largest Web3 ecosystem.

Aleph Zero, a blockchain ecosystem designed for speed, data privacy, and ease of development, today announced the mainnet launch of its new EVM-compatible Layer-2 solution. This important milestone marks Aleph Zero’s expansion into the Ethereum ecosystem, accelerating the development and expanding the scope of its zkOS privacy-enhancing solution.

Aleph Zero EVM Layer-2 is built in partnership with leading Rollup-as-a-Service provider Gelato and utilizes Arbitrum Orbit technology. This combination creates a very fast and efficient blockchain, boasting block times of up to 250 milliseconds with near-instant transaction finality. The network is capable of processing thousands of transactions per second, making it one of the fastest EVM-compatible chains available.

The Layer-2 solution leverages Aleph Zero’s existing Substrate-based WASM Layer-1 blockchain as the Data Availability layer. This architecture ensures a robust and decentralized foundation for the new EVM environment, while leveraging Aleph Zero’s existing network of 190+ validator nodes.

The ecosystem token, AZERO, will be used to power all gas transactions on Layer 2, similar to how it is currently used on Layer 1.

Adding zkOS functionality to Aleph Zero’s EVM layer in Q4

zkOS is Aleph Zero’s new comprehensive privacy framework designed to make integrating confidentiality features into blockchain applications more accessible and user-friendly. It is consistent with Aleph Zero’s vision of making privacy-enhancing technologies easy to use, and optimization benchmarks demonstrate the system’s ability to prove ZK proofs in less than a second on consumer devices.

zkOS integrates Aleph Zero’s privacy products into a single, developer-friendly toolkit that can be implemented without deep cryptographic knowledge. zkOS aims to solve the existing challenges of on-chain privacy, including poor user experience, long proof times, and limited multi-sig capabilities. zkOS strives to make privacy more practical and economically beneficial for both new and existing applications across multiple blockchain ecosystems by optimizing zero-knowledge proof generation on consumer devices to sub-second speeds.

Another use case for the Aleph Zero EVM, vib3s, helps the sports and entertainment industries leverage the power of Web3 to strengthen their relationships with their customers and fans.

This white label service enables organizations to quickly launch innovative apps that increase retention and loyalty of their user base, while providing an easy-to-deploy product that can be customized to fit the needs of any organization.

Key features include a newsfeed, built-in cryptocurrency wallet, on-chain loyalty points system, themed games for fan engagement, branded card payments, loyalty points cashback, etc. A key part of the app is its privacy features that are GDPR compliant.

vib3s is based on the Aleph Zero blockchain and the Upcade game hub, and uses solutions from Holyheld, Thirdweb, and idOS.

The project is expected to launch its first implementations this month and is targeting large-scale entertainment use cases in Europe.
