The metaverse is Unbanked Newsletter For weekly level-ups in NFTs, virtual worlds and collectibles
Dear unbanked nations,
Although the open metaverse is not yet a reality, it must stand on a variety of pillars to succeed and thrive.
These principles include freedom of expression, open interoperability, and strong privacy protections.
Are there any that are beneficial in all three of these areas and share some intersections with NFTs? VRM file format for 3D avatars.
I think VRM avatars will become even more popular in the future and NFTs will become an increasingly common way to facilitate them. So in today’s post, we’ll talk about VRM x NFT!

🦊 Say goodbye to complicated interactions. Hello, this is a simple exchange. 🦊

The Virtual Reality Modeling (VRM) file format is designed to make it easy to create humanoid character avatars. Built on glTF 2.0, an open 3D standard format, ensuring cross-platform compatibility across everything from game engines to web apps.
Known for its efficiency, VRM compresses all data, including textures and metadata, into a single file. You can also define standard motion capture actions to synchronize blinking, facial expressions, and more with your IRL users.

First introduced in 2020, VRM has since become increasingly popular alongside other notable 3D platforms, such as the Unity game engine, to streamline the creation and deployment of “drag-and-drop” virtual reality avatars for games and metaverse projects.

While the VRM file format was being developed out The NFT ecosystem’s traction within the NFT space has continued to grow over the past few years.
For example, Boomboxheads says, “multi-format token,” that is, an NFT with an associated VRM file injected directly into the metadata. This approach allows simple analysis of the presence of NFTs to support VRM avatars in games or virtual worlds.

I also have a project I made complementary This is a VRM file for NFT holders. When external and not directly connected to the relevant NFT on-chain, these files can be downloaded and uploaded to any platform of your choice.
for example, Adworld, transmission, Avatar, Bullet Map Logo, chain runner, CloneX, crypto avatar, cyber brokerand chubby cat A collection of NFTs that has seen a team or community-led work effort on creating a secondary VRM file for holders.

But either way, the idea here is to allow you to take your favorite digital collectibles and use them as avatars in your favorite digital spaces. Consider the following case: WIP meeting, various metaverse projects meet weekly. Thanks to VRM, you can take your character with you wherever the event takes place!
As this metaversal space continues to expand in the future, porting your ID of choice wherever you go and “unflattening” NFTs into 3D characters via VRM is poised to become increasingly common.

In the Metaverse segment of the NFT space, VRM support has recently become increasingly standard. Virtual world projects that have added or are in the process of adding VRM support include:
-
decentralization — Decentraland, one of the oldest Ethereum-based VR worlds, recently added the ability to export avatars to a VRM.
-
Holoworld — Built by the Hologram Team, this ongoing virtual character customizer platform is AI and VRM compatible.
-
HyperFi — Probably the most VRM-friendly web3 virtual world project.
-
wonderful island — The open-world social game, currently in closed alpha, added VRM support this year.
-
OnCyber — DIY web3 world builder project.
-
upstreet — The resurrected Upstreet, the brainchild of Webaverse, is now one of the most promising web3 VR worlds.
-
whip — This is a VRM marketplace and platform that has been operating since 2020.
-
voxel — Another one of the oldest Ethereum VR universes, Voxels (formerly Cryptovoxels) supports VRM in its to-do list.
The first wave of VRM conspiracies centered around 3D avatars. Certainly, that use case has enormous potential to grow as more of humanity moves online over the next century. But there are other possibilities here as well.
For example, we could see a VRM and NFT combo being used to facilitate an AI-powered virtual pet marketplace that can be imported from one virtual realm to the next. With the advent of VR headsets, these digital pets can feel increasingly real!
That said, now is a smart time to start paying attention to this area of metaverse construction. And personally, everything I’ve learned about the intersection of VRM and NFTs has come from people like: jin and boombox head And the same group M3It’s a virtual hackerspace community, so make sure you’re following people like this to stay connected here too!
