Big XR news from NVIDIA GTC, Apple, LG, HTC VIVE

It’s been a huge week for spatial computing. At GTC, NVIDIA amazed the world with innovations in robotics, digital twins, self-driving cars, AI processors, and countless others. Spatial data was behind this innovation.

With XR/spatial computing data, whether 3D environment data or user tracking data, 3D services are working hard behind the scenes to enhance and work on the future of the industry using deep computational understanding of the world around us.

As new technological solutions emerge, spatial and XR data seem to be the key elements holding together part of the future of work. Even if companies aren’t utilizing VR headsets or virtual meeting spaces, XR data is poised to play a critical role in shaping the future of work.

NVIDIA GTC: The Power of Spatial Data

“The future of heavy industry begins with digital twins” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said: He also explained that NVIDIA’s digital twin and AI platforms are integrated to launch the next generation of industrial workflows, including helping robots navigate and understand factory environments through virtual simulations.

In his opening keynote at NVIDIA GTC, Huang shared some of the company’s latest developments, including genAI and robotics tools. He also highlighted NVIDIA partners working to accelerate the presence of XR/spatial computing solutions in the workplace by leveraging the NVIDIA Omniverse platform. Partners including Siemens, Microsoft, AWS, and Wistron exhibited at this event.

NVIDIA is optimizing its Omniverse platform for industry partners by providing cloud-based APIs that enable customers to use digital twin workflows. “Everything that is manufactured will have a digital twin,” Huang explained. Omniverse is “an operating system for building and operating physically realistic digital twins” that customers can use for their design processes, automated workflows, or predictive weather solutions.

Huang also announced that NVIDIA’s Omniverse is now available in Apple’s Vision Pro. NVIDIA also launched the Omniverse Cloud API. This allows Apple Vision Pro users to customize and distribute high-quality OpenUSD file formats on mobile devices without compromising content or performance quality thanks to the cloud compensated computing process.

WebXR Debuts in Vision Pro

Talking about Apple Vision Pro, the device introduces support for WebXR browser-based Safari immersive applications after a series of hurdles in bringing platform support to the device. First, it was difficult to integrate WebXR into Vision Pro due to the service requiring a controller and Vision Pro using only hand tracking.

Vision Pro users can now use the WebXR service with integrated manual tracking input thanks to a new transient pointer input mode designed and released by Apple in conjunction with the W3C standards body. Apple introduced the WebXR input system as an early access feature, with broader integration planned for the future.

LG launches Metaverse for HVAC professionals.

LG Electronics recently launched its first Metaverse platform designed specifically for HVAC installers and professionals. Named ‘LG Air Solution Village’, this Metaverse platform is intended to provide HVAC professionals with an immersive experience for a variety of use cases, including virtual showrooms and functional installation simulations.

LG’s Air Solutions Europe division is creating the Metaverse platform, and despite its recent partnership with Meta, the Menlo Park-based company is not participating in the LG Metaverse platform. Instead, Spatial is providing a hardware-agnostic service for the LG Air Solution Village service.

LG plans to hold a virtual showcase event on the Metaverse platform to feature product launches, Q&A sessions, and industry talks. Using the Metaverse platform, LG aims to enable B2B customers to review and explore new LG Air Solutions products, such as the THERMA V air-to-water heat pump and MULTI VVRF system. The company claims that the platform’s product digital twins capture accurate data to enable “comprehensive understanding” for B2B customers.

HTC strengthens developer VIVEPORT Capital

VIVEPORT, HTC’s store for XR games and apps, has increased developers’ revenue share to 90%, the highest in the XR industry.

This move is an important step towards supporting the XR developer community. According to VIVEPORT, this new revenue share is a game-changer for the VR and MR industry.

From April 1, 2024, developers will receive 90% of the revenue for all new VIVEPORT titles, and from March 1 for existing titles, for one-time purchases of games and apps on PCRV or VIVEPORT for VIVE XR Elite. You will get it.
