Blockchain analysts discover $4.6 million in Duelbits cryptocurrency heist

Blockchain security platform Cybers has detected several suspicious transactions at cryptocurrency casino site Duelbits, indicating a security breach.

The suspicious address received $4.6 million from Duelbits wallets on the Ethereum and BNB chains. Cybers CEO Deddy Lavid exclusively shared early insights from the company’s research with crypto.news.

The root cause of this incident appears to be loss of wallet access control. This usually means that the private keys or access credentials for your wallet have been exposed or stolen. Suspicious addresses converted various tokens to Ethereum. Hackers typically use this tactic to consolidate assets into more liquid and widely accepted cryptocurrencies, making it easier to launder or hide their traces.

Additionally, assets on the BNB chain were linked to Ethereum. This further represents an attempt to move assets between platforms to obscure their origin. The hacker hastily exchanged all his BNB for BSC-USD, not realizing that he lacked the gas fees required to link funds to Ethereum.

To solve the problem of insufficient gas fees, the hacker used FixFloat, a service that enables fast cryptocurrency exchanges, to secure the funds needed for bridge transactions. Duelbits has not yet provided an update on this incident as of this writing.

This is a developing story.
