Wasder, a social platform for Web3 games, acquired by Spielworks

Spielworks has acquired Wasder.gg, a social platform for web3 games, and is looking to integrate it into the already thriving Wombat ecosystem.

This cryptocurrency winter has been brutal for those in the industry. The frost claimed the lives of many beloved organizations in the universe. My strategy for Token Gamer was simple. It’s about surviving at all costs. In other words, do whatever it takes to ensure that Token Gamer remains a key voice in blockchain gaming when the sun comes up again. Although this seemed like the best path, some organizations took a somewhat different path.

Spielworks owns and operates the Wombat ecosystem, which has been a familiar name to both the web3 gaming and EOS communities. Spielworks didn’t follow the same survival strategy as many of us. They went shopping. Instead of giving up territory, they expanded in all directions. This was particularly evident with the acquisition of AtomicHub, one of web3’s leading marketplaces (and our good friend). AtomicHub is an important component of web3 games, especially games like: alien world) and the acquisition saved the market from potentially non-existence, which would have been a real loss.

While many of us still thankfully applaud the move, Spielworks has been busy creating more.

Wasder.gg (I’m declaring this as a WASD user and I don’t care if it’s wrong, I’m not changing) is a social platform for gamers, a concept that has been explored for over a decade at this point. What makes this particularly promising is the focus on web3 integration and web3 games.

Wasder is available on both Apple and Google Play and has over 1.5 million downloads on the Play Store alone! It has some really great features, from Battle.net-style buddy modules to my personal favorite, game clips. To my eyes, no one has ever pinned a game clip as a standalone entity. YouTube Shorts is probably the closest we have, but it’s limited. This is especially true for the 9:16 aspect ratio.

Through its web3 capabilities, the platform seeks to connect a consistent thread between the games players play and make the experience social. For example, Wasder holds native and deflationary $WAS tokens that Spielworks will continue to nurture. There are several developments currently in the works.

  • Staking mechanism providing VIP benefits for participants
  • Exclusive NFT collections can only be purchased with $WAS. These NFTs will have utility as profile pictures within the Wasder app.
  • Burn policy using liquidity pool (LP) fees from asset transactions

It’s easy to see why Wasder could become an integral part of the Wombat ecosystem.

We have always imagined Wombat as a place of connection and discovery. With the acquisition of AtomicHub a few months ago and now Wasder, we’ve added a missing piece to the complete Web3 gaming ecosystem and grown our user base to over 7 million. The $WAS token will play a key role in how we reward player achievements and interactions, among other things, and we are excited to build an unprecedented dual-token ecosystem that unites both brands.

Adrian Krion, CEO and co-founder of Spielworks

It’s always been my goal at Wasder to benefit as many players and game creators as possible. (…) I strongly believe that Spielworks is perfectly suited to become the world’s largest Web3 game publisher in the future. Building Wasder over the past six years has been one of the great honors of my life. It’s great to see what we’ve built taken over by an experienced team with a proven track record who believes in creating fun, inclusive and rewarding player experiences. I’m also looking forward to working with Adrian and the rest of the Spielworks team to create a Web3 gaming ecosystem that can show millions of people what Web3 gaming can be.

final thoughts

There’s a saying in the fitness world that summer bodies are built in winter. This strikes me as a perfect analogy for a web3 business. That means if we’re at an all-time high and the weather is nice and people are coming back to say “GM” on Twitter once a day, it’s probably too late to get the attention your project needs or wants. Spielworks is very clearly creating the perfect physique for warm days.
